Tom Dimitriades worked in the hotel and restaurant business in Chicago in the early 1970’s. He dreamed of opening a Michigan Avenue style bar & grill in St. Louis.
Tom pitched his idea to his father who owned property on the corner of Euclid and Forest Park Parkway. At the time the land was being used as a car wash, gas station and Carl’s Diner. His father liked the idea so much that they began the preparations for building Tom’s Bar & Grill on this site.
Tom went to old buildings all across St. Louis to find antique wood fixtures and furnishings to enhance the ambiance of his new restaurant. In fact the swinging front doors came out of a former South St. Louis Church.
Tom’s Bar & Grill opened their doors on June 22, 1976 as a family business and quickly became one of St. Louis’ most popular bar & grills.
Dave Wessel purchased Tom’s Bar & Grill from his longtime friend Tom Dimitriades in March 1995.
